Innovations Suitable to Target Audience

The freedom to innovate, to deviate from 'established' procedures was especially important for a rural TV station. For example, unlike radio and other TV stations, Pij broadcasts did not begin at the same fixed time throughout the year. The starting time changed depending upon the season (earlier in winter, later in summer).

Problem solving approach

An interesting spin-off of the agricultural programmes had been "problem-solving" programmes. Whenever some problem of a village came to the notice of the medium, it was recorded and carried to the decision-making authorities. The reaction of the decision-making authorities was taped and the programme was transmitted. This was then periodically and persistently followed up till the problem was solved.
