Research For JDCP

Continuous research is in-built in the system and evaluation studies are conducted regularly. A large number of individuals, agencies and institutes are involved in the production and research process.

 

Research studies were divided in the following categories:

1. Formative Research

2. Process Research
3. Summative Research

 

Aims and Objectives:

The broad objective of research was to determine the impact on the knowledge level of villagers about specific subject contents transmitted in the priority areas like watershed management, health, education, panchayati raj and social and developmental issues.

Similarly, impact on knowledge levels of participants in interactive training programmes like village level workers, health workers, adult education workers was to be studied.

Apart from knowledge, the attitudinal and behavioural changes as a result of the evening broadcasts and interactive training programmes was also to be studied.

 

1. Formative Research:
Formative research is the research carried out before the production of programmes. Formative research, as its name suggests, helps in the formation of television programmes. It is aimed at determining the communication needs, determining the priorities, estimating the initial levels of knowledge, attitude and practices so that appropriate communication strategies and programming approaches could be developed. Formative research also includes pretesting of television programmes.

 

2. Process Research:
Process research is undertaken to find out the progress of the project in terms of its utilisation, usefulness, comprehension, and relevance so that mid-course corrections, change of emphasis, change in communication approach and f?trategy can be brought about.

 

3. Summative Research:

It is aimed at finding the overall impact. It is aimed at determining whether the started aims of the project to bring about visible and measurable effects in the priority areas like watershed management, health, education and other subject areas are fulfilled and to what extent.
