INSAT-2E Orbit Raised Further
The second orbit raising operation by firing the 440 Newton thrust Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) on board INSAT-2E, was successfully carried out this afternoon (April 6, I999) at 01.45 pm IST from INSAT Master Control Facility, Hassan. The Apogee Motor was fired for a duration of 60 minutes 05 seconds.
With today's manoeuvre, the perigee of INSAT-2E orbit has been further raised from 2000 km to 14,600 km. The apogee is 35,925 km and the orbital period is about 15 hours 34 minutes. Further, the inclination of the satellite orbit with respect to the equator has been reduced from 3.289 deg to 1.027 deg after today's manoeuvre which is as per mission requirement. It may be noted that the first firing of apogee motor had been conducted on April 4, 1999 raising the perigee of INSAT-2E from 250 km, at the time of injection into orbit by Ariane, to 2000 km. Precise orbit determination will be carried before the next orbit raising manoeuvre is performed on April 8, 1999.
The satellite's health is being continuously monitored from MCF and all systems are functioning normally
