‘Space’ in Parliament

Indian space programme continued to attract attention of both Lok Sabha (LS) and Rajya Sabha (RS). Questions answered in the Parliament during the year 2006 are as follows:

The questions pertained to matters relating to India’s ambitious space programme, vehicles launched by ISRO, relaunch of GSLV/INSAT-4C, launching of satellites for atmospheric/space sciences and weather satellite, Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS), reusable space vehicle technology, manned mission to moon, outsourcing of satellite building services, application of advanced technology in space activities, inter-connecting village health-care centres, disaster management support, commercialisation of space technology, securing global launch market by India, interaction between ISRO and foreign based organisations and agreements for space research with foreign countries.

The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on S&T, Environment and Forests held its meeting in April, 2006 and reviewed the performance of the Department for considering the Demands for Grants of the Department for 2006-07.
