Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program (AIBP) of Government of
India, has the mandate of speeding up implementation of on-going
irrigation/multi-purpose projects. All the 143 irrigation projects across India
using Cartosat-1 data to assess irrigation potential created by these projects
have been taken up behalf of Ministry of Water Resources. To begin with, 53
projects (out of 143) are being studied covering about 5.45 million ha spread
across 18 States. Work has been completed for 27 projects, and for 20 projects
work is under progress.
