Under Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, funded by
the Department of Drinking Water Supply of the Ministry of Rural Development,
ground water prospects mapping on 1:50,000 scale and generation of digital data
base pertaining to ground water prospecting such as lithology, geomorphology,
geological structures and hydrology taken up in phases. Under Phase III of the
project, ground water prospecting mapping for six states viz., Andhra Pradesh
(Part), Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttarakhand covering
1290 maps is planned to be completed in 2008-09. In addtion, four more states
(Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, part of U.P. & W.B.) were also added under Phase
III.
