National Database for Emergency Management (NDEM)

Under the National Database for Emergency Management (NDEM) project, organizational arrangements, system definition and facility planning at NRSA and MHA have been worked out. Data layers organised for 69 Districts generated earlier have been ported to NDEM. Prototypes of certain application tools like River-Watch Tool, Flood Hazard Information System, Flood Disaster Decision Support System, etc., have been developed. As part of the developmental efforts, cyclone tracking and landfall prediction studies were continued, and improvements made with regard to accuracy levels. Hydro-meteorological observation networks are being expanded by deploying two numbers of Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) in NE region, in association with IMD. Under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) project on Tsunami Early Warning and Storm Surge Modeling, prototype Pressure Sensor for BPR has been developed by Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) of ISRO, and tested up to 1000 m depth of water column. Specifications for transmission of data from Tide Gauges and Tsunami Meter to Central Receiving Station (CRS), through INSAT, has been worked out. Under the International Charter, IRS images were provided for monitoring floods in India, Vietnam and fires in Greece. ISRO has expanded the international collaboration by joining JAXA initiated 'Sentinel Asia' (SA) Project, as a core member, for supporting disaster management and related capacity building, in the Asia Pacific region / countries.
